The Good Sports

Mike and Brian were obliging enough to let me capture their visages today and didn't complain even though we did this moderately early in the morning.
Thank you for being good sports. More images to come.

High-Key Portrait

My sister and I did a little photo-shoot this morning so that I could try creating a "high-key portrait." I was recently reading about this technique, where you place a light figure against a light background and blow out the highlights, so that the figure in the image is defined through shadows. It's the opposite for a "low-key portrait" where the figure is defined through highlights. I'd say this is a 60% high key portrait..maybe, because I could've pushed the contrast to make the shadows more important in defining form. However i'm glad that I had this technique as an inspiration point.

Dorian Gray in Central Park

I titled this post "Dorian Gray" not only because I think Charlie resembles him in the 'antiqued' edit of the photo but also because it was a very gray, cloudy day when I took this. The light was really low so it was difficult to hold the camera steady and the focus is a little wonky. Instead of putting this photo in the technical error pile, I'm hoping that what it lacks in clarity it can make up for in atmosphere!
